Amicus Attorney is effectively discontinued. AbacusNext — which acquired Amicus from Gavel & Gown — has stopped onboarding new customers and has made no credible development commitments. If your firm is still running on Amicus, the question isn't whether to migrate, it's when and to where.
MyCaseis one of the most popular destinations for Amicus Attorney migrants. It's cloud-native, consistently rated for ease of onboarding, and priced at $39/user/month — meaningfully less than most alternatives with comparable feature depth.
The product is unsupported for new customers. AbacusNext stopped taking new Amicus signups. There's no commercial incentive to invest in the platform, which means no roadmap, no new integrations, and degrading support as the user base ages.
The consultant pool is nearly gone. Finding certified Amicus consultants in 2026 is difficult. When something breaks — and with aging server software, things break — your options are limited and slow.
Modern integrations don't exist. No real mobile app. No native e-signature. No integration with LawPay, DocuSign, Zoom, or the court filing systems that many jurisdictions now require.
Every month you stay increases your migration cost. Data grows, staff habits harden, and the eventual conversion gets harder. The window to exit cleanly is now; waiting makes it worse.
MyCase isn't the most feature-rich platform on the market, but it's often the right one for firms leaving Amicus. Key reasons:
If your firm has specialized contingency, mass tort, or large-scale document management needs, Clio or Filevine may serve you better. But for general practice, litigation, and estate planning firms, MyCase is a highly efficient transition from Amicus.
Do not decommission Amicus until your data is fully validated in MyCase. Keep both systems accessible in parallel for at least 30 days.
What to export from Amicus Attorney:
Clean before you import.Deduplicate contacts, standardize matter names, and fix any data quality problems in Amicus first. Importing dirty data creates cleanup work that's harder to do inside MyCase.
MyCase offers a 10-day free trial. Start there to familiarize yourself with the interface before your import. Contact MyCase's support and onboarding team early — they have experience with Amicus migrations. Assign an internal migration lead and two or three power users to validate imported data.
After each stage, spot-check at least 10–15% of records.
Budget 3–4 hours of structured training per user. MyCase has a gentler learning curve than most alternatives, but users coming from Amicus will need to rebuild habits around time entry, matter navigation, client portal usage (new for all Amicus users), and the billing workflow.
Pick a go-live date and hold to it. From go-live, stop entering any new data in Amicus. Keep Amicus accessible (read-only is fine) for 30 days while staff builds confidence in MyCase. Set a final decommission date.
Cloud access from anywhere
No VPN, no server, no remote desktop. MyCase runs in the browser and on iOS/Android.
Client portal
Amicus never had one. MyCase's portal reduces email volume and speeds up invoice payment.
E-signature and payments
Both built into MyCase. No separate DocuSign account or payment gateway.
Active development
MyCase ships regular updates. You're buying a platform that improves, not one in maintenance mode.
Lower total cost
$39/user/month, no server infrastructure, no consultant dependency.
Allow 6–10 weeks for a clean migration. The timeline is shorter than some alternatives because MyCase's onboarding is streamlined — but rushing it still creates problems.
Trust accounting reconciliation is mandatory. Have your bookkeeper reconcile every trust balance against Amicus records before going live. Trust errors have bar complaint implications.
Document migration takes time. If you have large document libraries in Amicus, budget 2–4 additional weeks for this phase.
MyCase has fewer advanced features than Clio. Firms with complex billing arrangements (LEDES billing, multi-tier rates, complex trust structures) may find MyCase's billing module limited.
