Who we are

What data we collect
Information you provide
Email address. If you subscribe to the Owlesq newsletter, we collect your email address. Subscription is voluntary. We use this address solely to send the newsletter you requested; we do not sell or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.
Information collected automatically
IP address and technical request data. When you visit owlesq.com, our servers log standard HTTP request data including your IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited. This data is retained in server logs for up to 30 days and then deleted. We use it for security monitoring and diagnosing technical problems.
Analytics events. We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate site usage — which pages are visited, how long visitors stay, and how they navigate the site. Analytics data is collected in aggregate. We do not use analytics data to identify individual visitors.
Click-tracking on outbound links (future)
Owlesq currently has no commercial relationships with any listed vendor. If we introduce outbound click tracking in the future — for example, to measure traffic to a vendor’s site — we will update this policy before any tracking is enabled, and will collect no personal information beyond what is automatically logged in server requests.
How we use your data
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Email address | Sending the newsletter you subscribed to; no other use |
| Server logs (IP, request data) | Security, abuse prevention, technical diagnostics |
| Analytics events | Aggregate traffic analysis; improving site content and navigation |
| Click-through events (future) | Measuring outbound traffic to listed vendors |
We do not use any collected data to build profiles of individual users, and we do not sell personal data.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services in operating this site:
- Email delivery (Fastmail) — Your email address is transmitted to Fastmail to deliver the newsletter. Fastmail processes this data solely to send requested emails on our behalf.
- Web analytics (Google Analytics) — We use Google Analytics to measure aggregate site traffic. We have configured it to minimize data collection; we do not enable cross-site tracking, advertising, or remarketing features.
- Hosting infrastructure — owlesq.com is hosted on Vercel. Server infrastructure may process request data in the course of delivering pages.
We require third-party providers to handle data only as necessary to provide the services we’ve engaged them for.
Cookies
owlesq.com uses cookies to the minimum extent necessary for the site to function. We do not currently use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or third-party tracking cookies. If that changes before launch, this section will be updated.
Analytics may set a first-party cookie to distinguish repeat visits from new visits. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; this will not prevent you from reading content on this site.
Data retention
| Data type | Retention |
|---|---|
| Email address (newsletter) | Until you unsubscribe; deleted within 30 days of unsubscribe request |
| Server logs | 30 days, then deleted |
| Analytics data | Aggregate, indefinite; no individual-level retention |
Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK, you have rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR including the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data; to object to or restrict processing; and to data portability. We collect minimal data, but you may exercise these rights by contacting us.
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and CPRA, including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
Data security
We use industry-standard practices to protect data in transit and at rest, including HTTPS for all site traffic. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
owlesq.com is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy — for example, when we add a new analytics provider — we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, notify newsletter subscribers. The current version of this policy is always at owlesq.com/privacy.
